ALPHA READER

An alpha reader is the first person to read a raw, unpolished, or work-in-progress manuscript, providing high-level feedback on plot, structure, character, and pacing. Unlike beta readers who focus on marketability, alpha readers help authors identify major plot holes, continuity issues, and character development early, allowing for structural fixes before the editing stage. 

BETA READER

A beta reader is a reader who reads a nearly completed manuscript to provide honest feedback on the overall, "big picture" story from an average reader's perspective. They identify plot holes, pacing issues, character inconsistencies, and confusing scenes to help the author revise before publication.
